The earthquake that hit Haiti last week has taken the lives of literally tens of thousands of people and it has put the lives of hundreds of thousands of others on hold. The devastation is incredible and magnified when the problems in Haiti prior to the earthquake are considered. That's why T-Mobile Cell Phones has decided to allow all customers calls to Haiti free of charge until January 31. In addition, roaming charges and the like for customers in Haiti will not be charged and instead they will be able to use T-mobile cell phones partner networks while in Haiti.

While it's not the biggest gesture in the world it is a very applicable and useful one. It not only helps people in Haiti, in the wake of the Earthquake, but also those living outside the country help reconnect with family and friends who still live there. It's nice to see a big company like T-mobile cell phones have a heart in such a time of desperation for so many people. Certainly this gesture will not go unnoticed and one must wonder if other cell phone companies will catch. Even if they are reluctant, will they really risk not making the PR move to save a few bucks and further punish those affected by this earthquake?

Well, this author thinks that if any of these other companies are smart they will follow the example of the T-mobile cell phones and do the same if not up them. Why not? Who can honestly say one of these companies can't suspend January and maybe even February accounts for those with calls going to Haiti? Exactly. So, I think they should do it. The idea is get help from those who have the means to those affected and without the means. Well if that's the case then Verizon, ATT, Sprint, Nextel, Boost Mobile and a slew of others need to step it up and quick. Relief in this form will only work if action is taken immediately. Unlike monetary donations, it won't help in the future; it is not applicable for the future.

So kudos to T-Mobile for waiving their charges to those that need to find loved ones. And let's hope that they are a trendsetter for the other cell phone companies out there. This is a win-win situation for all, if the companies would look past the initial losses of one or two months.
